Among all the books that have been written about God, I myself have written two: one about God in Jewish scripture and another about God in Christian scripture. The book before you—about God in Muslim scripture, the Qur’an—is the third in the series. I am a Christian, a practicing Episcopalian, but I approach God in all three of these books not directly but only /5(19).

Throughout the book Reynolds interacts with primary sources from Sunni, Shia, Sufi, and modern Islamic scholarship in order to present a balanced-though-complicated picture of the God to whom the Qur'an introduces the reader.

I recommend this work to anyone who is interested in considering a fair and charitable understanding of the God of Islam/5(4). “With God in the Qur’an, Jack Miles completes the literary pilgrimage that gave us God: A Biography and Christ: A Crisis in the Life of God.

This time Allah is the central character, and drawing on the Qur’an, but also the Hebrew Bible and the New Testament, Miles puts him in play with the cross-over figures of Adam, Noah, Abraham, Joseph, Moses and Jesus.

Presumably, he is the same God (each religion proclaims there is but one God) but they do not always depict him in the same way. "God in the Qur’an" is the third book in the series, although I am not sure Miles set out to write God in the Qurʼan book series. I have not read the other two.

The first book, "God /5. Allah: God in the Qur'an. [Gabriel Said Reynolds] -- The central figure of the Qur'an is not Muhammad but Allah.

The Qur'an, Islam's sacred scripture, is marked above all by its call to God in the Qurʼan book Allah, and Allah alone. relation between God and man in the Qur'anic worldview. Coming from the pen of the first serious Asian non-Muslim scholar and a Japanese, this book is now available in a new improved edition.

Book Review by Fazlur Rahman --"This book, which constitutes volume V. The Quran is the last testament in a series of divine revelations from God (Allah in Arabic).

It consists of the unaltered and direct words of God, which were revealed through the Angel Gabriel to Muhammad p, the final prophet of Islam, more than years ago. The Quran is the holy book of the Islamic world.

Collected over a year period during the 7th century C.E., the Quran is said to consist of Allah's revelations to the prophet Muhammad, transmitted through the angel Gabriel. Regarding this Final Book, God said, "Behold, it is We Ourselves who have bestowed from on high this reminder: and behold, it is We who shall truly guard it" [Holy Quran 9] Today, if we compare the chapters in every copy of this Final Book with each other, we will find they match perfectly word for word - from the oldest copies made.

God in the Qur'an User Review - Publishers Weekly. Pulitzer-winner Miles (for God: A Biography) provides a generous, if critical, literary interpretation (or “theography,” as he calls it) of Allah, the god of Islam, in this engaging yet disappointing. Muslims, therefore, believe in the Gospel of Jesus, the Psalms of David, the Torah of Moses, and the Scrolls of Abraham.

However, the Quran which was revealed to the Prophet Muhammadis the only book of revelation which remains in. A unique comparison of the Bible and the Qur’an. Pulitzer Prize winner Miles (Emeritus, English and Religious Studies/Univ.

of California, Irving; Christ: A Crisis in the Life of God,etc.) approaches the Qur’an with respect and curiosity while acknowledging the fact of his roots as a Christian believer and sets out to discover who God is in the context of the Qur’an.

The Quran (/ k ɔːr ˈ ɑː n /, kor-AHN; Arabic: القرآن ‎, romanized: al-Qurʼān, lit. 'the recitation', Arabic pronunciation: [alqur'ʔaːn]), also romanized Qur'an or Koran, is the central religious text of Islam, believed by Muslims to be a revelation from God ().

It is widely regarded as the finest work in classical Arabic literature. Slightly shorter than the New Testament, it Chapters: (list). Who is Allah. What makes Him unique. And what does He ask of those who submit to His teachings. In the spirit of his Pulitzer Prize-winning God, a trailblazing "biography" of the protagonist of the Old Testament, and Christ, his brilliant portrait of biblical Jesus, acclaimed religious scholar Jack Miles undertakes to answer these questions with his characteristic.

(RNS) — In his new book, Miles arrives at some surprising conclusions on the nature of God in the Hebrew Bible, the New Testament and the Quran. Search Submit Clear Sunday, August 2, The Quran is a book of God revealed to the Prophet Muhammad. It did not come to him in the form of a complete book, but in parts over a period of 23 years.
